“Cutbacks 2011” by Maggie Sue Traynor

With all the cutbacks, I’d just like to know

When the weather turns bad, where do we go?

When the weather is nice, it’s easy to say

Let’s walk to the park, where we can spend the day.

When the weather turns cold and the snow hits the ground

Not many people will be hanging around.

Being homeless you know is not something we choose

It’s like the role of the dice–some win, some lose.

There needs to be a place to weather the storm

For it is our right to be healthy, dry and warm.

When you’re in your own home with plenty of heat

Try to imagine life out on the street.
